Most service industry jobs moved to countries like India in the past have been relatively low-skill tasks (like answering customer inquiries). But this has drastically changed in recent years, with an increasing number of specialized, highly skilled jobs of the Western world in fields as diverse as investment banking, aircraft engineering and pharmaceutical research being directed to India. The shift reflects a growing recognition of the sophisticated, high-value skill sets that the well-qualified and ever growing intelligentsia in India and other developing countries has to offer.
